Orthotic Consultation

In addition to the national orthotic service provided to the NHS by Peacocks Medical Group, we provide a clinic at the North East Foot Centre to offer the best foot, ankle and knee orthoses available - both off the shelf and custom made. You can make an appointment yourself or be referred to an Orthotist by a health professional.

What are Orthoses?

Orthoses are medical devices that are applied to the body to fine tune a person’s biomechanics. Orthoses come in many forms and examples include: insoles, braces, splints, collars, callipers and prescription footwear.

These devices can be used to manage challenges associated with many conditions including: diabetes, arthritis, cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, scoliosis, musculoskeletal disorders, trauma and sporting injuries.

Orthoses are routinely used to: reduce pain, prevent/correct/accommodate deformities, prevent skin/tissue breakdown, delay surgery, progress rehabilitation, improve mobility and promote independence.

At Peacocks Medical Group we are very proud to be at the forefront of orthotic design and manufacture and have pioneered the development of custom 3d printed foot orthoses. We also provide a wider range of ‘off the shelf’ and bespoke orthoses for the ankles, knees, hips, upper limb and spine. Custom made orthoses are manufactured at our headquarters at Benfield in Newcastle; there is no middleman and as a result our orthoses are provided with no additional hidden costs.

Why see an Orthotist?

Orthotists are allied health professionals who are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Orthotists are uniquely trained engineers with knowledge of the human body and the medical problems that impact upon it. Orthotists undertake detailed assessment to identify biomechanical problems following detailed assessment. They work collaboratively with patients to design, prescribe and fit the most appropriate orthosis for each individual. Orthotists who work for Peacocks have extensive clinical experience and their ability to provide quality orthotic solutions is highly valued amongst the healthcare community.
